ENJOY WINTER LIKE MIHA FONTAINE<\/h1>\n\n\n

How does an Olympian spend the winter season in the Eastern Townships? Curious to find out, we contacted Miha Fontaine<\/a>, a young freestyle skier from Magog, winner of a bronze medal in the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Live from Finland, where Miha was training at the end of 2023, the sports star took time to chat to us about his favourite activities when he\u2019s in his home region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do you usually spend the winter?<\/strong>
<\/span><\/div><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Skiing, of course! I\u2019m a real enthusiast and I have so much fun on the mountains. I also practise a number of other winter sports. I\u2019ve even taken up snowboarding!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In order to concentrate on my sport, I currently live in the Quebec City area, but I often return to the Eastern Townships to visit my family and\u2026 ski!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Describe winter in the Eastern Townships in three words.<\/strong>
<\/span><\/div><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

What are your favourite things to do when you\u2019re in the Townships?<\/strong>
<\/span><\/div><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I love being active in the outdoors. I skate with my grandfather on Lake Memphremagog<\/a>. That\u2019s been our tradition for years, but I must admit it\u2019s more enjoyable when it isn\u2019t too windy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also love wandering along rue Principale (Main Street) in Magog. It\u2019s a pleasant activity in itself\u2014taking time to amble past the stores and to window shop\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And your favourite mountain?<\/strong>
<\/span><\/div><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Mount Orford! That\u2019s where I learned to ski, and I come back often.\u00a0I love the expert-level \u201cContour\u201d trail<\/a>. It has multiple pitches on different levels with sudden drops, and after a good snowstorm, it\u2019s a superb run!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019re spoiled for choice in Quebec. Even though the slopes are shorter than in the Alps, each mountain has its own characteristics and challenges. And let\u2019s not forget\u00a0the apr\u00e8s-ski scene<\/a>! Orford during the spring season brings back fond memories of apr\u00e8s-ski in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do you like to unwind and cocoon?<\/strong>
<\/span><\/div><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

When I come back from a long day on the slopes, I like to sip on a hot chocolate by the fire and watch a good movie. I\u2019m particularly fond of comedies and thrillers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s in store for you in 2024?<\/strong>
<\/span><\/div><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Even if isn\u2019t an Olympic year for me, I\u2019ll be competing at various events. The World Cup, for example, will be\u00a0in Lac-Beauport<\/a>\u00a0where I\u2019m living just now, so that will be extra special! And then, I\u2019ll be training, skiing, relaxing\u2026. During the summer, I\u2019ll do a lot of mountain biking, so I\u2019m certainly going to make the most of this coming year!
